Accessibility
We want everyone to be able to use this site, including people who use a screen reader, a keyboard only, or a bigger text size. Here is where we stand, honestly.

What we are building toward
We build this site toward the WCAG 2.1 Level AA standard. That is the benchmark most people mean when they talk about an accessible website.
We are not going to tell you the site is perfect, because no honest website can say that. What we can tell you is what we have done, what we know is still rough, and how to reach a real person who will help you.
What we have done
- Every photo has a text description, so a screen reader can tell you what is in it.
- Every control you can reach with the Tab key shows a clear outline, so you always know where you are on the page.
- A "Skip to content" link is the first thing the Tab key reaches, so you can jump past the menu.
- Every field on the message form has a real label attached to it, not just grey text inside the box.
- If the form cannot be sent, the error is announced out loud, is tied to the form, and says what went wrong in words. It does not rely on the color red alone.
- The mobile menu keeps the Tab key inside it while it is open, closes with the Escape key, and puts your place back where it was when it closes.
- Spanish words and department names are marked as Spanish, so a screen reader pronounces them in Spanish instead of English.
- One main heading per page, with headings in order below it.
- If your device is set to reduce motion, every animation on this site stops, and the promo video does not load or play at all.
- Body text and link text meet the 4.5 to 1 contrast level, and the buttons and form outlines meet 3 to 1.
What is not right yet
We would rather list these than pretend they are not there.
- The promo video has no pause button. On our home page there is a short, silent video of the market that starts when you scroll to it and repeats. There is no visible control to stop it. If your device is set to reduce motion, the video never loads or plays and you see a still photo instead, which is how most people who need this will experience it. We still plan to add a pause button.
- The promo video has no captions. It has no sound and no speech, so there is nothing said to caption. It also carries no information you need, which is why we treat it as decoration. There is still no written description of what it shows.
- The scrolling product strip does not stop for the keyboard. The band of product names that slides across the page stops when you hover a mouse over it, but there is no way to stop it from the keyboard. It stops completely if your device is set to reduce motion. It is marked as decoration, so a screen reader skips it, and every product it names is written out elsewhere on the page.
- The map on the contact page is not ours. It is a window into a mapping company's own site, and we cannot fix how it behaves with a keyboard or a screen reader. So that you never need it: our full address, our hours, and a plain link for directions are all written out as text on that same page.
- Some lines and card edges are faint on purpose. Thin divider lines and the outlines around cards sit below the 3 to 1 contrast level. They are decoration and carry no information, so nothing is lost if you cannot see them. All text, buttons, and form fields meet the contrast levels.
Hit a barrier? Tell us
If something on this site does not work for you, tell us and we will fix it or get you the information another way. You do not have to explain why, and you do not have to know the technical name for it. Just tell us what page you were on and what happened.
Call (541) 701-0471 or email contact@carniceria99.com. If it is easier, come by the counter and tell us in person. We will answer, and we treat these as real bug reports, not complaints.
About this page
This statement is based on a review of the site done in a browser with a keyboard, checking headings, labels, focus outlines, contrast, motion, and the mobile menu. We last reviewed it on the date at the top of this page.
